Resize and crop images online, for free
This image resizer lets you change the size of a photo, crop it to the exact shape you need, rotate and flip it, and save it as PNG, JPG or WebP, all in one place. Set the new size in pixels or as a percentage, or pick a preset for Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, X or link previews and the crop box snaps to the right shape. There is no upload and no watermark, and it works on phones as well as computers.
Image sizes for social media
Each platform wants its own shape and size. These presets are built in, so you only need to drag the crop box to frame your subject:
| Use | Size (px) | Aspect ratio |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram square post | 1080 × 1080 | 1:1 |
| Instagram portrait post | 1080 × 1350 | 4:5 |
| Stories, Reels, TikTok, Shorts | 1080 × 1920 | 9:16 |
| YouTube thumbnail | 1280 × 720 | 16:9 |
| Open Graph link preview (Facebook, LinkedIn, X, WhatsApp) | 1200 × 630 | 1.91:1 |
| X (Twitter) header | 1500 × 500 | 3:1 |
| Facebook cover photo | 851 × 315 | 2.7:1 |
| LinkedIn banner | 1584 × 396 | 4:1 |
Free, original, 1:1, 4:3, 16:9 and 9:16 ratios are also available for anything else.
Crop to a circle for profile pictures
Turn on Circle crop to cut your image into a perfect circle with a transparent background, ready for profile pictures, avatars, team pages and email signatures. The circle is saved as PNG or WebP to keep the transparent corners; choosing a circle switches the format from JPG automatically, because JPG cannot store transparency.
Resize by pixels or percentage
- Pixels: type the width or height you need. With the lock on, the other side updates automatically so the image keeps its proportions.
- Percentage: scale the image to a fraction of its size, or use the quick buttons for 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, 150% and 200%.
- Unlock the ratio only if you really want to stretch or squash the image; usually it is better to crop to the new shape first.
The output size and an estimate of the file size are shown before you download, so you know exactly what you will get.
High-quality resizing
Shrinking an image in one big step can make it look jagged and shimmery, especially with fine patterns, text and thin lines. This resizer scales down in several half-size steps with high-quality smoothing, which keeps edges clean and detail crisp. Enlarging an image cannot add detail that was never captured, so big upscales will always look soft; for the sharpest results, start from the largest original you have.
Rotate, flip and export
Rotate left or right in 90° steps and flip horizontally or vertically, for example to fix a sideways scan or mirror a selfie. Then choose the format:
- PNG for graphics, screenshots and anything with transparency.
- JPG for photos that need to work everywhere.
- WebP for the smallest files on websites, with transparency support.
For JPG and WebP you can set the quality. Need the file even smaller, or several images resized at once? The Image Compressor can compress a batch to a target size and limit its dimensions in one go.
Precise cropping with mouse, touch or keyboard
Drag the crop box to move it and drag a corner to resize it. On a keyboard, focus the crop box and use the arrow keys to move it. The current crop size in pixels is shown under the image, and a rule-of-thirds grid helps you compose. Your last image and settings are kept in your browser, so you can pick up where you left off.

Image Resizer & Cropper: frequently asked questions
Will resizing reduce quality?
Making an image smaller keeps it sharp. Enlarging it cannot add detail, so large upscales will look soft.
What sizes should I use for social media?
Common sizes are 1080×1080 (Instagram square), 1080×1350 (Instagram portrait), 1200×630 (Facebook and Open Graph link previews) and 1500×500 (X/Twitter header). They are available as presets.
How do I resize an image without stretching it?
Keep the lock on so width and height change together. If you need a different shape, crop to that aspect ratio first, then resize.
How do I make a round profile picture?
Turn on Circle crop, drag the box over your face and download as PNG. The corners are transparent, so it looks round anywhere.
What size is a YouTube thumbnail?
1280 × 720 pixels (16:9). Choose the YouTube thumbnail preset to crop and resize to exactly that size.
Can I resize photos on my phone?
Yes. The resizer works in mobile browsers on iPhone and Android: tap Choose image, drag the crop box with your finger and download.
